He caught a lot of flack and many people tried to discredit his work. In 2004 when the book came out I was so indoctrinated into the idea that Climate Change (Global Warming) was real, that I almost didn’t read the book. This is one example of a take down of Crichton’s book, written in 2016 - which is kind of interesting in and of itself, that people are still trying to discredit the book years later:
