Many evangelicals target Deuteronomy 32:39 for their arguments on the qualities of God. Some claim He murders or hurts you based on the sin you transgressed against the Almighty. Others claim the direct opposite. Yet both sides tell you none can deliver you from His hand. If you’re sick or dying, it’s your fault. You must deal with the wrath of the God.
Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill (מוּת), and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
But the question remains. Is the above supposition true, or a play on words by those who claim they're angels of light?
Let's peak a little deeper for the wisdom within the verse. As we look at the words, we first come across the verb mooth (מוּת). It's an action which implies to kill, put to death or execute. Therefore, it’s God who does this, the preacher man claims. What they didn’t explain, these words can also be figurative which changes the interpretation and narrative.
With this nuance in mind, I ask again, who kills?
What if I told you it’s you? You now may ask how and the answer, “It's simple, it’s through your subconscious mind.” If you recall the saying, "You are what you believe," it's the key to unlock the verse.
In this life, you're the captain (conscious mind) of your ship. If you give bad orders to the crew (subconscious mind) the ship heads off course into destruction. But if you give good orders (subconscious mind), the ship carries on and sails the seven seas (Murphy, Joseph. 2022).
With this in mind, let's replace the words "I" and "He" with conscious and subconscious mind. Now it becomes a little clearer how it’s your thoughts which lead to your demise or health and prosperity.
When you claim you can’t do "fill in the blank", then those items claimed become your reality. But, when you fill your mind with positive input it plants the seeds of life into your subconscious. You become alive because you received what you seek — happiness, harmony and peace.
Matthew 21:22 states, "Whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive," which tells you this non-hidden truth. Once your eyes are opened to these truths, they cannot be unseen.
Now when we re-read Deuteronomy 32:39 with this concept in mind, it reads as follows,
"My negative thoughts kill me, lead to my destruction. My positive thinking makes me come alive. When I tell myself I have this disease or an ailment, I am wounded by the tragedy I claimed for myself. If I tell my subconscious mind to heal me, it heals my body, for it created me with the divine wisdom of God. And none can deliver me out of my head (conscious mind) or my subconscious mind."
Therefore, be careful what you ask for, because it can become your worst nightmare. Or, in the right mindset, your saving grace. The next time you’re about to proclaim a negative statement, stop yourself in your tracks. Instead, fill your mind with thoughts of harmony, peace and happiness and you’ll see your life blossom.
Godspeed, my friends, godspeed.
